HKUMed CHART Signs MoUs with AITRICS and Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong on AI Early Warning Systems

Yesterday, Centre for Health AI Research and Translation (CHART), HKUMed signed two Memoranda of Understanding with AITRICS and Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong (GHK), part of IHH Healthcare North Asia.

Held at the Mrs Chen Yang Foo Oi Telemedicine Centre on Sassoon Road, the ceremony brought together academia, clinical practice and industry innovation around a shared mission: to translate health AI from research into clinically validated, locally relevant and implementable solutions for patient care in Hong Kong.

Two complementary frameworks were signed:

  • A bilateral MOU between AITRICS and CHART was signed to design and conduct a retrospective validation of AITRICS’ AI-based patient deterioration prediction and monitoring solution, and to evaluate its clinical, operational and scientific value.
  • A tripartite MOU among AITRICS, GHK and CHART to support implementation and evaluation of the solution in GHK wards, and to pursue a prospective clinical study with a view to academic dissemination and future clinical translation.

We were honoured to welcome Dr Kwang Joon Kim, CEO of AITRICS; Dr Kenneth Tsang, Regional CEO of IHH Healthcare North Asia and CEO of GHK; Professor Joshua W. K. Ho, Co-Director of CHART and Assistant Dean (Innovation and Technology Transfer), HKUMed; and representatives from the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES).

As highlighted by Professor Joshua Ho, the true value of health AI lies not only in technological advancement, but in its ability to be translated into clinical evidence, integrated into real-world workflows, and ultimately deliver measurable impact for patients and healthcare systems.

This collaboration marks an important step in that translation pathway: from algorithm to evidence, from evidence to implementation, and from implementation to patient impact.
