Mr. Vernon TAM
Mr. Vernon Tam is Vice President of IPO Vetting in the Listing Division of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX). He has over 20 years of experience spanning biomedical research, pharmaceutical industry, investment banking, IPO regulation, and capital markets, with a particular focus on biotechnology, healthcare, and innovation-driven enterprises.
Vernon began his career at MSD and Eli Lilly before moving into investment banking with Deutsche Bank and Bank of China International, where he advised on IPOs, mergers and acquisitions, and capital raising transactions across the healthcare and biotechnology sectors. With academic training in molecular biology and research experience in reproductive endocrinology, he brings a unique combination of scientific, financial, and regulatory expertise. His experience in the regulatory assessment and capital market readiness of innovative biotechnology and healthcare companies has given him a distinctive perspective on the scientific, commercial, governance, and financing considerations required to translate breakthrough research into successful and sustainable enterprises.
Vernon holds a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from The University of Hong Kong, a Master of Philosophy in Reproductive Endocrinology from the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, an MBA from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and completed the International MBA Programme at Duke University with a concentration in Healthcare Finance. Drawing on his interdisciplinary background, Vernon is passionate about accelerating the translation of scientific innovation into real-world impact by connecting academia, industry, investors, regulators, and policymakers, while advancing technology commercialization and supporting Hong Kong’s development as an international hub for biomedical innovation and healthcare entrepreneurship.
