Prof. Jimmy TAO
Prof. Jimmy Tao is a seasoned serial entrepreneur, angel investor, and a prominent leader in Hong Kong's innovation ecosystem. With over 20 years of experience founding, funding, and scaling technology companies, he brings profound expertise in deep-tech and life sciences, particularly in molecular biology, Alzheimer’s drug discovery, and analytical chemistry.
Currently serving as the Chairman of both the Hong Kong Biotechnology & Healthcare Council and the Hong Kong Startup Council at the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI), Prof. Tao is at the forefront of driving the local biotech ecosystem. His exceptional track record in technology transfer and commercialization is globally recognized; he is a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer and a recipient of the Grand Prix at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva and the WIPO Medal for Inventors.
As an active angel investor in 20 companies and an Adjunct Professor at City University of Hong Kong, Prof. Tao excels at mentoring researchers to overcome translational barriers and build businesses with strong social missions. He holds a BSc in Materials Science from UMIST and an MPhil in Engineering from the University of Cambridge. Combining his robust academic foundation with extensive commercial acumen, he is passionate about guiding HKUMed innovators in refining their value propositions, securing investments, and transforming groundbreaking medical research into real-world impact.
