HKUMed Technology Transfer Unit congratulates Professor Aimin Xu, Dr Baile Wang, Professor Eric Honoré and their teams on identifying Piezo1 as a key molecular “exercise sensor” for bone strengthening.

The discovery clarifies how mechanical signals generated during physical activity are translated into bone-protective effects, opening new avenues for therapies against osteoporosis and bone loss—particularly for patients unable to engage in regular exercise.

HKUMed TTU looks forward to collaborating with the research teams and industry partners to develop and commercialise Piezo1-targeted interventions that could improve bone health and quality of life for patients worldwide.
